Absence

Good attendance and punctuality at school is essential. Taking holiday during term time is strongly discouraged as it interrupts teaching and learning and hinders the progress that children make. Repeatedly arriving late at school is also very disruptive and we would like to remind parents that our gates open at 8:35am and that children are required to be in school by 8:50am every day.  Our Attendance Policy is available below to download.

In almost all instances, holiday taken during term time will not be authorised, which reflects the Government requirements we are obliged to meet. Special leave can be requested but only in exceptional circumstances will it be granted.  In all instances, parents or guardians must write to the Headteacher well in advance to ask permission if they plan to take their child out of school during term time. Parents whose children are absent from school without consent can be fined by the Truancy Patrol team.

It is especially important that at key points during the academic year children attend school, for example during National Curriculum Tests in Year 6 or during the end of the summer term/beginning of the autumn term, when all important transition takes place.

We realise that from time to time, children are unwell so please ensure you inform the School Office before 9am if your child will be off school.

We continuously track and monitor attendance of all children in school and we will contact parents or guardians by letter if we have any concerns. Children whose attendance falls below 80% are immediately referred to the Educational Welfare Officer who may also wish to speak with parents to see what support can be offered for persistent absenteeism.

Our Home School Link Worker - Vicky Noble is also able to offer support with attendance issues. If you would like to make an appointment with Vicky please do so via the School Office.
